World's Best Chocolate Pie

No, really. It is the best. This is what I made for Father's Day.

Nana's Old-fashioned Chocolate Pie

2 c. sugar
3/4 c. flour
1/2 c. cocoa powder
Dash salt
6 egg yokes (save whites for meringue)
3 c. whole milk

Whisk sugar, flour, cocoa powder, salt, and milk together. Beat egg yokes and mix well. Cook over medium heat till filling is very thick, stirring constantly. Be careful not to burn!

Place in 2 baked pie shells. Use whites to make meringue. (Instructions here since I don't have time to type it all in.) Top pie and brown in a 350 degree oven till golden. Cool and enjoy. Because you WILL enjoy it!

Hot

Our a/c is out, as in completely dead. Which wouldn't be so bad if we didn't live in the subtropics with temps over 90 and 1,000% humidity. OK, it could be a lot worse and I'm not complaining. The house is bearable in the morning, so we are trying to get our housework done first thing. Then we have a small portable unit in the master bedroom where we can do school and quiet work and play when it gets hotter. And hopefully we'll come up with a permanent fix soon. Till then, we grin and bear it!

Kitchen Informercial

OK, so I'm not a superblog who's asked to review products. But this one has been so great for me I'm reviewing it anyway, in hopes that it might help somebody else. It's a non-toxic cleaning block for the kitchen. It acts kind of like a sanding block, but supposedly doesn't scratch. I've enjoyed it most for scrubbing cooked on food and stained pans. Does wonders! Way better than a scrubby! The only drawback is that I think it could have a better shape, although I'm not sure what. The block shape is just a little unweildy sometimes.

Oh, the package I bought actually called it an Earthstone. The pic above is made by Earthstone--it's the same thing, but the package looks different.

Elizabeth Sews

Elizabeth is going to our church's summer day camp 2 days a week. She wanted to make herself a lunch bag. She sewed most of it with minimal guidance from me. I just tackled a couple trickier details. Didn't she do a good job? I'm proud of her!

Today she left it behind by mistake, hopefully in Billy's office. It broke my mama heart when I saw her tears as she realized she'd forgotten it and said, "But Mama, I made it myself!"

On a completely different note, I think this is a record for not posting (other than an announced sabbatical). Not that I have such a huge number of readers, but those who visit here are so sweetly faithful. Thank you. I apologize for not responding to comments lately, along with not posting. Real life has come along and I've spent a lot of time recently with those relationships, both friends and family. It's been sweet, but I've missed the fun of posting.

Back!

Back from vacation. Catching up, cleaning my messy house. Posting soon. Don't give up on me!
