Blog Etiquette-Just For Fun!

Tell me, my friends, is it considered polite to respond to blog comments, or totally unnecessary? Do tell. I need to know. If I don't know, some great catastrophe is sure to occur.

Hmmm...Somehow I don't think that's a very compelling threat. So just tell me what you think, OK, ladies of the blogosphere?

I respond if they ask a question, leave inaccurate information, or add something really helpful. I don't respond to anything argumentative; or to general "me too" or "nice post" kinds of comments. I think of comments as being more directed toward my readers than to me personally. Otherwise, they would have sent me an email.

I try to respond to almost all of my comments...I prefer that to e-mail.

To me, I view it like they're coming to my home--well, my home on the World-Wide Web--and if they were in my home I would respond to what they have to say.

But I think it's more a matter of preference...One thing I've discovered, you get more comments when you respond to people. (o;

I like to get responses...not sure I have given any??? Maybe in emails to the people after the comment? I am not sure there is a right or wrong way...

I read somewhere...not sure where...that it is polite to send an e-mail to any new "commentators" on your blog. Then, it is entirely up to the blogger how to handle other comments. Personally, I don't tend to check back and see if the author has left a "comment for my comment." It's hard to remember which posts I have left a comment on etc. But, others may read blogs differently. And, you should do what is comfortable as the Lord leads!

I agree with Mrs.B. I feel that if someone wants to take the time to comment on my blog, I should acknowledge them.

I also try to respond to most comments, but I have gotten over feeling hurt if people don't acknowledge me. That acknowledgment could take many forms, though: an email thanking me for the comment or responding to it, responding in comments, or visiting my blog.

One practice I have that I try to stick to almost invariably is to respond to the first comment on any post. That way nobody ever feels like they are left hanging out there by themselves.
