Thankful

Last night Sarah was running with a fork when she tripped and fell. All we could see was blood pouring from her eye. After we got it cleaned up, we found that the tines had just gashed the upper lid. A tiny bit farther down and it would have put her eye out. It scared us to death, but we're thankful that God kept it from being a serious emergency. I wonder how many times He protects us or our children from calamity and we don't even know it.

Psalm 91

You who sit down in the High God's presence, spend the night in Shaddai's shadow,
Say this: "God, you're my refuge.
I trust in you and I'm safe!"
That's right—he rescues you from hidden traps,
shields you from deadly hazards.
His huge outstretched arms protect you—
under them you're perfectly safe;
his arms fend off all harm.
Fear nothing—not wild wolves in the night,
not flying arrows in the day,
Not disease that prowls through the darkness,
not disaster that erupts at high noon.
Even though others succumb all around,
drop like flies right and left,
no harm will even graze you.
You'll stand untouched, watch it all from a distance,
watch the wicked turn into corpses.
Yes, because God's your refuge,
the High God your very own home,
Evil can't get close to you,
harm can't get through the door.
He ordered his angels
to guard you wherever you go.
If you stumble, they'll catch you;
their job is to keep you from falling.
You'll walk unharmed among lions and snakes,
and kick young lions and serpents from the path.

"If you'll hold on to me for dear life," says God,
"I'll get you out of any trouble.
I'll give you the best of care
if you'll only get to know and trust me.
Call me and I'll answer, be at your side in bad times;
I'll rescue you, then throw you a party.
I'll give you a long life,
give you a long drink of salvation!"

Rejoicing with you. It's often only in times like these that we become aware of God's continuing protection.

Wow, what a close one! You have no idea how that sends shivers down my back! After all Justin's been through with his eye surgeries... eye stuff just grosses me out!

Reminds me of a little incident J and Ben (5) had years ago; J (9) made his own bow and arrow (sharpened dowel rod!) and attempted to shoot an apple off his little brother's head. The arrow hit just bellow Ben's eye, so very narrowly missing the eyeball!

To think, they are now 19 and 15 and my parents let them use real bows/arrows and guns!!

"It's all good fun, until someone loses an eye!"

I can't tell you how many times my kids have scared me to death with close calls! What a blessing to know that Jesus knows about these mishaps before they happen!

Erica, it probably wasn't funny at the time, but the story about shooting the apple off the other's head...Made me laugh. Elizabeth had to have foot X-rays a couple years ago when she jumped off something "Cause I wanted to see if I could fly like a bird." Kids have the funniest and most dangerous ideas.

Gina, I'm with you...I am amazed that any human beings make it to adulthood. How can anyone watch their kid grow up and wonder if there's really a God?! :)
