Figs, Take 2
The figs are ripening in abundance. It looks like our neighbors are going to let the tree stay until harvest is over.
We can pick bowls full like this every single day. Today would probably yield several bowls. I haven't been able to make it out there this evening, so I suppose tomorrow we'll have a double harvest.
And there is still much fruit yet to ripen. Not bad for a tree that's growing out of concrete.

I've never had many figs. What do you do with all of them?
Mostly we've eaten them fresh. They are one of the most nutritious fruits. Dh's favorite is fig preserves, whole figs preserved in a heavy sugar syrup. Yummy on biscuits! We can't really do sweets, though, so I don't make these. You can also dehydrate figs. They are sort of like a seedy date. Hopefully I'll get to try that before they are all gone.
